Laura Elena Raileanu is currently Professor at the University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland in Yverdon. She received her PhD in Computer Science in 2002 and her Master in Statistics in 1997 from the University of Neuchâtel (UNINE). From 1997 to 2002 she worked as research assistant at UNINE in the projects “Formalization and comparison of decision trees” and “Intelligent Browser for the ICD 10” in which she introduced a new methodology of comparison of decision criteria to improve the classification tools.
From 2002 to 2005 she worked as researcher at the Cancer Epidemiology Unit, in the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, at CHUV Lausanne, where she applied Markov chains to model breast cancer data. Her research interests and publications focus on data mining classification algorithms.
